We’re excited to announce PhoneBlock 1.8.3, a release packed with improvements that make managing your spam protection easier and more personalized—especially if you’re dealing with international phone numbers.
Your Account, Your Way
We’ve heard your feedback: you want more control over your PhoneBlock profile. That’s why we’ve added two highly-requested features:
- Edit Your Display Name – Whether you’ve had a change of heart about your username or just want to freshen things up, you can now update your display name directly from your account settings. Your profile, your choice.
- Change Your Email Address – Moving to a new email provider? Changed jobs? No problem. You can now update your registered email address without losing your account history, ratings, or settings.
Breaking Down International Barriers
Here’s where things get really interesting. Phone numbers are surprisingly complex—what works in Germany doesn’t necessarily work in Italy, France, or anywhere else. Different countries have different rules for trunk prefixes, leading zeros, and dialing formats.
The Problem: You’d search for a number, but PhoneBlock might not recognize it because of subtle formatting differences. Italian numbers with their mandatory leading zeros? Rejected. Numbers from countries with unusual trunk prefixes? Confusion. Cross-country searches? Hit or miss.
The Solution
We’ve completely overhauled our international phone number handling:
- Italian Numbers Now Work Properly – Italy has unique rules: landline numbers require a leading zero (like 06 for Rome or 02 for Milan), even in the international format.
We now handle these correctly, both for validation and display. So whether you’re blocking a persistent Milan telemarketer at +39 02 1234567 or searching for a Rome
scammer, PhoneBlock gets it right. - Smart Dial Formats – When you see a phone number in PhoneBlock, it now shows in a format you can actually dial from your country. No more mental gymnastics converting
international formats. - Cross-Border Intelligence – Search for a number from a different country? We now validate it against that country’s actual rules, not just your local formatting
expectations. Each country’s quirks—whether it’s leading zeros, special trunk codes, or unusual area code formats—are properly handled.
Under the hood, we’ve integrated official ITU (International Telecommunication Union) trunk prefix data and enhanced our country-specific parsing logic. The result?
PhoneBlock now correctly understands phone numbers from countries with all sorts of non-standard dialing rules.
The Details Matter
We’re obsessive about the little things:
- Better Error Messages – When a number isn’t recognized, we now tell you why in clear, localized language
- Email Localization – All email notifications now respect your language preferences, including error messages during login
